the infiltration attempt (log 080)

I don't know what the enemy's move is going to be here. I would like to say that I could at least guess what they are trying to pull off here. All I know is that they are going to hit us and they are going to hit us hard.

The only thing that I know for sure is that they have suddenly gotten quiet today all of a sudden. I can feel a chill crawl up my spine on seeing this. Until yesterday the soldiers present in here were attacking us like a pack of rabid zombies. Today morning they suddenly stopped all attacks and retreated to their base.

The only reason that the enemy would be making such a decision is if they have something up their sleeves. Something that would be able to beat us in a single move. The fact that they are willing to wait this much to attack us, creeps the fuck out of me. The vampires must know that they have a time limit.

After all, right now the patriarch and his group must be going to the enemy base. Any second they are going to attack. By now, I am sure that the necromancers know that the mayfires are about to attack them. The only way that they would not know is if the enemy has become blind all at once.

I mean they don't know about the patriarch's plan to burn the miasma. Still, the fire altar and its barrier are a key priority to them. Why are they not trying to take it?

It would certainly be the best way to harm the patriarch. After all, if the necromancers managed to get access to the outer keep they have won. They would not need to worry about anything that the mayfires will be able to pull off.

They are willing to wait in front of such an opportunity. That is why I think that some kind of a hidden ace up their sleeves that will shift things in their favor.

The mayfires are not ready to believe my words about the hidden ace. They seem to be thinking that the enemy retreated out of fear. That the mayfires had managed to somehow break the vampire's morale.

I will be honest right now. All of that is a load of bullshit. The enemies that we are facing here are the vampires. The damn bastards have tricks within tricks. They are not the type to get intimidated by a warrior spirit.

I mean, I could still have believed that there is a hint of truth to the mayfires confidence. But the injuries that both their leaders have taken should be enough proof. They are just being delusional now.

Alfred Mayfire, who has been protecting the servant's path is still in a better position. The only injury of significance on the man is the burns on his hands. They look suspiciously like the man had used a fireball to burn somebody or something right next to his hand.

Alfred Mayfire is not ready to admit that is the case though. He keeps giving some flimsy excuse or the other. Anything but the truth. If the enemies are getting that close to you, then it is clear that the man is struggling to hold his path.

The only problem is that I can't help the man out anyway. I don't have any soldiers to send his way. There are no traps that I can put there. There is no way that I would be able to go there personally. Not for a while at least.

Right now the crypt is being held by us with the barest of our fingernails. The only reason that we have not fallen already is due to Lady Amelia and that hammer of hers.

I have been hearing all day about how the lady has been dominating over her enemy. She has been cutting through the vampires and their soldiers. Her hammer has supposedly crushed and burned quite a few of our enemies. (I want to see it. A hammer made of pure flame sounds so interesting.)

I don't know how long she is going to be holding against them though. She is already reaching the limits of her power. She is not ready to admit it but she won't be able to hold for long.

I got to see her about an hour ago. The lady is a walking patch of bruises and temper. Her mana is so exhausted even I am struggling to see the mana in her body. That lady is painfully close to rupturing her mana core. I guess that you are pitying her. Don't, it is due to the same lady that we are in our present predicament at the crypt.

It is due to her stubbornness only that Jacob has a broken hand and Andrew looks like he is about to drop dead any moment. As I have mentioned to you before, the crypt is not a place where it is easy to fight with the enemy.

If they had just fucking agreed to hold the tunnel from inside the burial tunnels. We would not be in such a shitty position. The tunnel is pretty small. More than two soldiers can't be fighting in there.

A rotating group of soldiers could be placed inside that tunnel to hold it. It would have meant that we would have more options right now. At least so many would not need to die trying to protect a single place.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

I had managed to convince the soldiers to do this. They grumbled about their traditions, but they understood the necessity of this move. (My appearance must have helped me out too. I look like a burnt zombie right now, so I must look pretty intimidating.)

Lady Amelia managed to screw all of that up. She convinced her soldiers that they would be able to easily hold the crypt.

Naturally, the soldiers listened to her and refused to enter the tunnels anymore. Even now when they are so close to losing the crypt, they are not ready to listen to me.

As if that wasn't enough, all of this fiasco has left my soldiers completely injured. I have had to make use of Jacob and Andrew to act as the sentries for the burial tunnels. They are the only ones willing to enter that tunnel now.

They have been alone in that tunnel for a day now. They have been making sure that the vampires cannot suddenly ambush the soldiers at any time. (The enemy managed to figure out where the formations revealing their presence were. I can't predict their movement anymore.)

They are the first people that are attacked when the enemy attacks us. They have to retreat into the crypt while fighting. This they have to do after constantly patrolling the tunnels, with barely any rest.

As if that wasn't enough, lady Amelia had the gall to come into my office without permission. Then she proceeds to tell me about how my soldiers are hurting her feelings.

She seems to think that the two entering the burial tunnels were hurting their ancestors somehow. I just want to ask what kind of stupid ancestor would curse his descendants for trying to stay alive.

I don't remember what I had told her, (I had gotten that angry.) but it certainly seems to have brought her back under control. She is still refusing to enter that tunnel though.

If the attacks had continued she would not have been able to hold against the enemy. No matter how much she insists that she would have been able to. That is why their getting silent now is freaking me out. They had the fire crypt in their hands and they gave it up.

If the infiltration attempt had been successful and I knew what they were planning, it would be fine. I at least would be able to tell how the enemy is going to attack us. I would have been able to guess their hidden ace at least. I would be able to prepare for it somehow.

I guess that I should describe their infiltration attempt. Maybe a second look at what I know would be able to give me an idea of how they plan to attack us. It is a fool's hope.

Well, the infiltration attempt started a few minutes after the negotiations had begun. As was the plan, Alfred Mayfire and Amelia Mayfire met up with Trevor.

The man quickly directed them to the servants' tunnel. It was the only path that they could have used then. The burial tunnel was an option as well, but you can already see what the lady is acting like about that. I wonder if the group would have succeeded if Amelia had listened to me.

From there, they met up with Jacob and Andrew and the group set off to the enemy base. It was around this time that I started fighting the warrior. Well, nothing particularly interesting happened throughout the trip. The vampires had no defenses ready to prevent an infiltration. That was the case until they managed to sneak into the enemy base.

They weren't there for long though. Still, I will record what the group saw in the enemy base. Alfred's and Amelia's records are pretty useless if I am honest. The only thing that managed to catch their attention was the bloodbags. They had never actually seen a bloodbag, so looking at them was a shock to the group.

Andrew's and Jacobs's accounts are a bit better. They discuss about state of the bloodbags. Most of them seem to be on the verge of death. That is pretty unusual and might be the only clue I have here. Vampires usually take pretty good care of their cattle. This is especially the case when they do not have any access to the people.

The only time that the bloodbags are exploited like this is when they need a lot of blood mana. They are casting some kind of powerful magic. What this powerful magic might be though, I have no idea. The group never managed to get deep enough into the place. Even if they did, they just aren't experienced enough with blood magic to tell what it could have been.

So that is about all that I have learned from them. These records are ironically the reason for their being discovered. Because, as Alfred and Amelia were busy looking at the bloodbags, they forgot that they had to stay hidden. They revealed their presence to an enemy patrol.

The enemy patrol was a bunch of recently turned vampire grunts. The group had to kill them which caught the attention of the blood mana source. I assume that it was the void. It could have also been the snake of course. The overwhelming force that the group describes makes me think that the person is void.

Well, I had warned Andrew that you don't spill vampire blood. That is something that a vampire would not be able to ignore even if he was dead. They would know when even a drop of blood has been spilled.

As for how they managed to survive from the void. Well, they never actually met the man. The instant that they killed the troop, the quartet ran. At least they remembered that warning of mine.

The void started following them when they were about halfway to the fire altar. His presence was enough to cause the group to feel it, even Andrew and Jacob.

The presence disappeared by the time they reached the fire altar. After this, the soldiers did not get to think much about it as the enemy began to attack the fire altar like crazy.

Well, this doesn't comfort me. The only reason that the vampires would risk starvation is if it was worth it. The people protecting this barrier would certainly not need so much blood mana.

I think they mean to attack the barrier around the fire altar. That would make the entire thing useless. I think that it would also be enough to bring down the entire barrier in a single attack.

The only way they could do that is from in here though. So that means that they will be attacking us with our full force. If they were to attack us, I don't know how we will be blocking the enemy. The only plan that I have is a plan to escape.

Maybe if I had a bit more information I could plan for this a bit better.
